The surgical treatment of follicular thyroid cancer is relatively simple. Generally speaking, there are two treatments, one is total excision of the thyroid gland and the other is excision of the lateral lobe of the thyroid gland plus the isthmus. In addition to resection of the primary site, metastases to the thyroid gland should be removed, and lymph nodes that may have metastases should be cleared. Of course, lymph nodes in the paratracheal area or in the central region are routinely cleared during surgery. If there are other isolated distant metastases, such as isolated lung metastases or isolated bone metastases, surgery can be considered to remove them, which can also achieve very good results.
