Precautions after dental implant surgery

The patient should bite down on the cotton gauze pressed into the surgical wound after surgery. 30 minutes later, spit out the gauze and try to minimize spitting during this period. Apply cold compresses locally for 24 hours after surgery to reduce exudation and relieve pain. The procedure should be carried out with rest and avoid strenuous exercise. There can be a little swelling and ischemic discoloration after surgery; these conditions are normal and do not indicate infection or other problems. Sleep with your head elevated. Even so, you will still find significant swelling in the wound when you wake up on day 2. Edema usually starts on day 1 after surgery, peaks on day 2 after surgery, and begins to subside on day 3 after surgery. If the swelling continues to increase on the 3rd day, there is a possibility of secondary infection, and the cause should be identified and the corresponding local treatment and anti-infection treatment plan should be adjusted. Do not lick the implant or the healing cap with your tongue. Do not smoke or drink alcohol after surgery. Do not wear the prosthesis for 2 weeks after surgery. Patients who have no choice but to wear a restoration should only wear an aesthetic restoration, not a functional one, to avoid pressure on the trauma area. II. Post-operative diet 【√ 要】 Into semi-fluid or full-fluid food (such as: egg flower, milk, broth, chicken soup, porridge, etc.) on the day after surgery, and soft food (such as: noodles, bread, loose rice, etc.) after 4-7 days according to the recovery situation. 【X Don’t】 Avoid chewing hard candy, dried fruits, bones and other foods that require excessive force with dental implants for 3 months. III. Oral hygiene 【√ 要】 2 hours after surgery, you can eat and drink moderately, and the food should not be too hot. Afterwards, you can gently rinse your mouth with mouthwash after meals to prevent residual food residue in the mouth, more than 3 times a day until the sutures are removed (generally 7-10 days after surgery). Do not brush your teeth and rinse your mouth frequently with water for 24 hours after surgery, because frequent rinsing may cause blood leakage from the wound. Do not brush the dental implant area within one week. 4. About medication 1. After surgery, there is usually only slight hidden pain or discomfort, no need to take painkillers, but if you are sensitive or feel localized pain, you can add painkillers on the day after surgery, if normally, 24 hours after surgery, there will no longer be a continuous pain sensation. 2. Routine use of antibiotics after surgery. For simple implant surgery (small number of implants, short surgery time and good recovery of patient’s body), oral antibiotics are given after the surgery, while complex implant surgery requires intravenous application of antibiotics to prevent infection. V. Please consult the doctor promptly in the following cases 1. If there is obvious bleeding and it is not controlled or there is any discomfort even after the above simple treatment, you should call the doctor immediately for consultation or go to the hospital for consultation. 2. If there is still numbness of the lower lip and obvious local bleeding 5-6 hours after the jaw implant surgery, you should follow up promptly. 3, 5-6 days after the operation area again pain, possible infection, timely follow-up symptomatic treatment.
