Down’s syndrome screening consists of two parts: early and mid-trimester screening. Early pregnancy results are mostly available on the same day, while mid-trimester results are related to the hospital testing process and may vary from hospital to hospital. Early pregnancy screening is usually performed within 11-13 weeks of gestation, with ultrasound measurement of the posterior nuchal translucency layer, or combined with serological indicators such as pregnancy-related plasma protein A and beta-HCG along with the posterior nuchal translucency layer thickness, and the results of this period of screening are usually obtained on the same day. Midtrimester screening is performed between 16-20 weeks of gestation. Since the results of Down’s syndrome screening require the detection of hormone levels in the pregnant woman’s body and the calculation of the results in combination with age and gestational age, a small amount of venous blood should be taken on an empty stomach on the day of the test. In hospitals with better equipment, staff and reagents, the test and calculation can be done on the same day, i.e. the pregnant woman can get the results on the same day, otherwise, you need to consult your local hospital for the time to pick up the report. Usually, the physician will inform the time to pick up the results after the test, so you can follow the doctor’s instructions.
