Treatment of night terrors in children mainly includes eliminating the causes of night terrors, medication, and other complementary treatments.
Nocturnal Alarm Syndrome (NAS) is a condition in which children are suddenly awakened from a deep sleep and will suddenly sit up, scream, shout, cry, and may be accompanied by symptoms of autonomic nervous system excitation such as tachycardia, shortness of breath, sweating, and flushing of the skin, and it may last for 1 to 10 minutes, making it more difficult to wake them up.
1. Eliminate the causes of night terrors. Poor sleeping environment, overweight bedding, chest compression, overfeeding, and nasal insufficiency can lead to night terrors. It is necessary to try to eliminate all kinds of stressful factors before going to bed, make sure that the sleeping environment is quiet and comfortable, the bedding should not be overweight, the chest should not be compressed, the diet should not be overfed, and the nasal passages should be kept unobstructed.
2. Medication. If the episodes of night terrors are more frequent, and there is obvious anxiety or depression during the day, you can use anti-anxiety drugs under the guidance of the doctor.
3. Other auxiliary treatment. Night terrors can be combined with other therapeutic measures, such as psychological counseling, back massage, music therapy, to help establish a regular sleep pattern and ensure adequate sleep, which may improve the symptoms.
When children’s night terrors are more serious, it is recommended to seek medical attention.
