What’s wrong with your child’s cough and runny nose?

There are many causes of coughing and sniffling in children, and they are usually considered to be respiratory tract infections and allergic attacks, but different causes of coughing are treated differently. First of all, respiratory tract infections are the main cause, including upper and lower respiratory tract infections, which usually include coughing and sore throat in addition to coughing and nasal discharge. In general, anti-infection and antiviral treatment can be combined with cough relief and other symptomatic treatment, and in severe cases, it is recommended to consult a hospital for chest X-ray and other related tests to treat the symptoms. Secondly, if the symptoms are recurrent and each attack is similar, cough variant asthma caused by allergic factors should be considered. The main cause of cough variant asthma is persistent irritation of the airways caused by exposure to allergens, which leads to bronchospasm induced coughing and stimulation of nasal mucous membrane congestion and edema with increased secretion. In this case, anti-allergic drugs such as cetirizine are needed, and symptomatic treatment such as bronchodilatation is also needed (for specific medication, please combine with clinical practice and be guided by the doctor in an interview). In conclusion, there are many reasons for coughing and nasal discharge, so it is recommended to go to the hospital for relevant examination to clarify the causes and guide the treatment.
