How long does it take for a fish spike in the throat to heal on its own?

In clinical practice, it is common to encounter fish spikes in the throat. The self-healing time of fish spikes varies depending on the location of the spike in the throat. If you feel a fish spike in your throat while eating fish and there is a distinct foreign body sensation or tingling sensation, you may simply have a puncture or cut in the mucosa, or the fish spike may be superficially located, hanging from the oral mucosa, pharyngeal wall or tonsils. The fish spike usually falls out on its own, and the symptoms usually resolve themselves within 2-3 days or less, and the foreign body sensation and pain in the throat may disappear. If the fish spike is stuck deep in the throat, it usually does not heal on its own and the patient needs to be seen by a hospital otolaryngologist to have the spike removed in a timely manner under laryngoscopic examination. In addition, when a fish spike is stuck in the throat, the patient should not blindly rely on swallowing rice balls or drinking water to forcibly swallow it, as this may aggravate the damage to the throat.
