Can sciatica heal on its own?

Sciatica is a clinical condition caused by a variety of diseases (e.g., lumbar herniation, pear-shaped muscle syndrome, etc.), and whether it can heal spontaneously needs to be determined on a patient-by-patient basis. For younger patients with milder symptoms and shorter duration, it may heal spontaneously after recuperation. For example, if sciatica is caused by herniated disc compression, the patient needs absolute bed rest during the acute phase, including urination, defecation and diet in bed. 2-4 weeks later, the nerve compression will gradually be relieved, and even without treatment, the patient can achieve self-healing. If the sciatica is very serious, the herniated disc is compressed for a long time, and there are recurrent attacks, it is usually difficult to heal on its own. The condition can be effectively recovered only through various treatments, including medication, physical therapy (acupuncture, massage, radiofrequency, etc.) and targeted treatment such as surgery. If sciatica occurs, it is recommended that patients can go to a regular hospital for relevant examinations to determine the specific condition and undergo treatment under the guidance of a professional doctor.
