Can diabetes be cured by traditional Chinese medicine?

There is no clear evidence that Chinese medicine can cure diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is usually controlled by oral hypoglycemic drugs such as metformin or subcutaneous insulin injection. As an adjunctive treatment, Chinese medicine can improve the clinical symptoms of patients and help to regulate the patient’s physical condition. According to Chinese medicine, diabetes belongs to the category of “thirst-quenching disease”, and thirst-quenching disease can be recognized as upper thirst-quenching, middle thirst-quenching and lower thirst-quenching. According to the different diagnosis, the patient can be treated with formulas such as Yuquan Pill, Jade Maiden Decoction, Enriching Liquid and Cheng Qi Soup, and Six-flavored Digoxigenin Pill. Diabetes mellitus is an endocrine system disease with abnormal glucose metabolism, which is mainly manifested by elevated blood glucose and polydipsia, polyphagia, polyuria or no obvious clinical symptoms. Diabetes can not be cured yet, but only through the adjustment of lifestyle and the use of hypoglycemic drugs to prevent the emergence of various complications. If diabetes is diagnosed and patients need Chinese medicine as an adjunct to treatment, it is recommended that they go to a regular medical institution to follow the doctor’s instructions, monitor their blood glucose levels regularly, and go to the hospital for regular checkups.
