If a ‘polyp’ is seen in the area adjacent to the black eye with a reddening of the white of the eye, it may be a sign of a pterygium. It appears as a ‘fleshy’ layer of tissue growing into the nasal or temporal side of the cornea and is associated with redness and a foreign body sensation when active.
If a translucent ‘polyp’ is seen in the red area of the eye away from the cornea, it may be a primary disease or a partial conjunctival oedema caused by rubbing the eye or a ‘retention cyst’ due to an obstruction in the lymphatic system of the eye.
