In clinical practice, we often see that patients with cirrhosis have a yellowish complexion, and the causes of yellowing are mainly the following three: 1. After cirrhosis, the metabolic capacity of the liver decreases, the degradation of tyrosinase decreases, and melanin increases, resulting in a dark, yellowish complexion, which is clinically known as the face of liver disease. 2. This yellowing is also known as jaundice. 3. Some cirrhotic patients have a combination of splenomegaly and hypersplenism, resulting in increased red blood cell destruction and anemia, or cirrhotic patients have a combination of decreased gastrointestinal function and impaired iron absorption causing iron deficiency anemia, so this facial color is mostly seen in atrophy.
