Do smelly feet mean foot odor?

Smelly feet are not necessarily foot fungus, and a proportion of patients with clinically smelly feet do have foot fungus with them. Tinea pedis is clinically a fungal infection, and for the presence or absence of tinea pedis, it needs to be observed with the help of fungal microscopy, which can be done under a microscope to see if mycelium can be found. In addition, patients with tinea pedis have blisters on the feet and flaking accompanied by itching. There are also some patients who suffer from simple foot odor, also known as oedema, which is accompanied by excessive sweating of the feet and is caused by the odor of sweat being broken down. For patients with odorant sweat with tinea pedis, a combination of antifungal medications is required. For simple odorant sweat, the patient can be given a topical soak in a 1:8000 solution of potassium permanganate.
