Multiple Sclerosis Patient Life Coaching Series #4: Exercise and Work

Studies have shown that regular moderate exercise is beneficial to both physical and mental health: 1. exercise can strengthen the body; 2. exercise can improve spasticity; 3. exercise can reduce depression and fatigue; 4. exercise can regulate gastrointestinal and bladder functions. Zhao Guixian, Department of Neurology, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, recommends light to moderate exercise, such as brisk walking, jogging, cycling, yoga, tai chi, and some aerobic exercise at the gym according to current physical condition. Work within your means and adjust your work to your condition without giving up work. People with multiple sclerosis need more rest and assign work as flexibly as possible; half-day or part-time work is recommended instead of full-time work; avoid taking up jobs that involve travel.
