Does prostatitis affect sexual function?

This question comes up almost as often as “Does prostatitis affect fertility?” The question comes up almost as often as “Does prostatitis affect fertility? The actual fact is that the chronic prostatitis will not affect the sexual function of men. This is a complex question and difficult to answer simply. There are several important aspects of human sexual function that are relevant to us: 1) erectile function; 2) ejaculatory function; and 3) sexual desire. The essence of penile erection is the filling of blood vessels inside the penis, and the completion of the basic process depends on the diastole of the smooth muscle of penile blood vessels and the filling of blood. On the other hand, the blockage of venous return ensures the continuation of erection. From this basic process, the prostate has no connection with the erection process itself, thus chronic prostatitis will hardly affect the erection process itself. So does chronic prostatitis affect ejaculatory function and sexual desire? Theoretically, inflammatory irritation can affect ejaculatory function thus leading to ejaculatory dysfunction. It is possible that the inflammatory stimulation can make ejaculation faster, which can lead to premature ejaculation. From this point of view, chronic prostatitis seems to be a cause of premature ejaculation. The fact is that it is not common to find clinically confirmed premature ejaculation due to chronic prostatitis, and the vast majority of patients with chronic prostatitis do not suffer from premature ejaculation. The actual fact is that there is a lot of doubt in this point. It is important to note, however, that sexual activity is not usually a simple biological activity for people. In layman’s terms, human sexuality is not about procreation at best, but about the experience of sexual pleasure. Therefore, human sexual activity has obvious emotional overtones, with its special sociological and psychological properties. Therefore, ejaculation is not simply an important part of the process of procreation, but more importantly, an ultimate psychological experience. To diagnose and treat ejaculatory dysfunction, we must first consider factors such as the relationship between husband and wife, sexual life environment, sexual skills, frequency of sexual life, and cooperation between spouses. As for the issue of sexual desire, it is more strongly emotional. It is more influenced by the person’s psychological state, social culture, moral values, etc. Some patients with chronic prostatitis will experience a more serious decrease in libido. The main idea now is that this cannot be blamed on the pathological changes of chronic prostatitis itself, but more on the negative emotions brought on by chronic prostatitis. The majority of chronic prostatitis patients are worried that chronic prostatitis will lead to “infertility”, “impotence”, “premature ejaculation” and other problems due to the wrong understanding of chronic prostatitis. This is the reason why there are negative emotions such as anxiety and depression. The sexual ability of men (especially libido) is greatly affected by emotions, and generally men’s sexual function is affected when they encounter major family events (such as the death of a loved one, stock market failure, friend betrayal, couple suspicion, etc.). It is therefore reasonable to assume that these negative emotions are the root cause of decreased libido in patients with chronic prostatitis. It is possible to cause premature ejaculation, but it is not rare. If you are too worried about chronic prostatitis, it may lead to a decrease in libido and may even affect ejaculation and erectile function.
