Treatment and prevention of sublingual gland cysts

Sublingual cysts are cysts formed by blockage of the ducts of the sublingual gland and retention of saliva. The cyst is located in the submucosa on the floor of the mouth and is a light blue mass with thin walls and soft texture. Larger sublingual cysts may penetrate the mandibular hyoid muscle into the subchin area and may also spread to the floor of the mouth on the opposite side. They are more common in children and adolescents. Sublingual gland cysts are found in the small mucus glands and sublingual glands on the ventral side of the tongue tip, resembling toad air sacs, commonly known as toad swellings. There are two reasons for their occurrence: one is due to the blockage of the distal end of the glandular duct and the continuous secretion of the mucosa, resulting in the proximal expansion of the epithelial cyst, which is called retention cyst; the other is due to the breakage of the gland and the leakage of mucus into the interstitial space, forming a cyst without epithelial lining, which is called exudative cyst. The radical treatment is to remove the sublingual gland, leaving part of the cyst wall without causing recurrence. For patients and infants whose general condition cannot tolerate sublingual gland excision, a simple pouch suture can be done, and then sublingual gland excision can be performed when the general condition improves or when the infant grows to 4-7 years old. In daily life we also need to pay attention to do a good job of preventive measures: 1, in ordinary life to pay attention to oral hygiene, pay attention to rinse before and after meals, while eating to pay attention to wash clean, do not eat some unclean food, in the diet or oral surgery operations to avoid the tongue or gums are often badly damaged or stimulated. 2, in the daily diet to pay attention to dietary regulation, eat more soft food, avoid excessive consumption of some spicy, sizzling products, but also need to pay attention to abstain from smoking and alcohol, avoid eating moldy food, to reduce the stimulation of the tongue. 3, some processing manufacturing industry also need to pay attention to improve the production process, to avoid harmful substances spillover, but also need to strengthen personal protection. 4, in life to carry out tumor screening, to strive for timely detection after the onset, early diagnosis and treatment.
