Do I have to undergo colonoscopy for colorectal cancer?

Recently, Zhang was found to have colorectal cancer when he had a colonoscopy here, and he was very depressed and regretted that he did not have a colonoscopy earlier, and the reason was that he was afraid that the colonoscopy would be very painful, thus delaying the best time for radical treatment, which was a pity. With the improvement of living conditions and the increasing environmental pollution, the incidence of colorectal cancer is on the rise nowadays. The most direct and effective way to diagnose colorectal cancer is colonoscopy. Whether it is traditional X-ray (barium meal, barium enema, air-barium double imaging), B-ultrasonic examination, or advanced CT, MRI, PET and other examination means, they are not as direct and accurate as colonoscopy. A colonoscopy is a bendable 140cm-long fiber tube with a light source and a miniature electronic camera at the end, which slowly enters the large intestine through the anus to examine the lesions, tumors or ulcers in the large intestine, and if necessary, take the tissue for examination or remove polyps from the large intestine. Is it really painful to have a colonoscopy? The answer is no. In the current technical conditions, as long as the correct method of operation is mastered, supplemented by modern technology, colonoscopy can be completely painless, and there is no need to actively give up colonoscopy with fear. Indeed, because the total length of the large intestine is about 1.5 meters to 2.0 meters, and its course in the abdominal cavity is both tortuous and very mobile, the mirror has to make “nine twists and turns” in the intestinal cavity to reach the end. The traditional method of entering the mirror is “one way or the other”, that is, the operator just keeps moving the mirror forward, regardless of whether there is a “loop” of the mirror in the intestinal cavity. This loop will not only directly cause severe abdominal pain, but also indirectly involve the retroperitoneal vagus nerve and cause nausea and vomiting. As mentioned earlier, the large intestine is both long and tortuous, so it seems to be difficult to achieve painlessness. In fact, it is not. With the correct method, it is possible to achieve painlessness. Since the 1980s, we have developed an original technique of rapid painless colonoscopy in the awake state. The key to the specific method is summarized in four words: “taking a straight into the mirror”. That is, the core of the technique throughout the whole examination process is to keep the mirror body in the large intestine is relatively straight, avoiding the mirror in the large intestine to form a “loop” and cause patient pain. After nearly 20 years of practical application, this technology has completely proved its feasibility of “fast and painless”. I can tell you with certainty that most of the colonoscopies can be performed “fast and painlessly in the awake state”. In addition, we also carry out painless anesthesia colonoscopy, with the cooperation of anesthesiologists, the examination is absolutely painless, fast and safe, which is the future trend of endoscopy, and also reflects the human care, at present, the author’s hospital has been able to carry out daily endoscopy under anesthesia. Therefore, here we can say for sure that today’s colonoscopy is by no means as painful as people think, do not miss a good opportunity to detect the disease because of fear of pain and regret for life.
