Parents of children with amblyopia often ask their doctors, “How long will it take to cure our child’s amblyopia treatment?” This is a rather realistic question. However, it is difficult to ask for a simple one-sentence answer because the length of treatment for amblyopia depends on many factors, such as: the doctor, the parents and the amblyopic child. The correctness of the doctor’s diagnosis, the reasonableness of the treatment plan, the importance of the amblyopic child’s parents, the ability to supervise the amblyopic child’s adherence to treatment, the ability to create conditions for the amblyopic child to be treated, etc. Whether the amblyopic child is conscientious and persistent in the treatment will also affect the treatment effect. (1) The length of treatment is related to the severity of amblyopia, with long treatment courses for severe amblyopia and short treatment courses for mild amblyopia. (2) The duration of treatment is related to the nature of the amblyopic eye’s gaze. Generally speaking, the duration of treatment is significantly shorter for amblyopic eyes with central gaze than peripheral gaze. (3) The duration of treatment is related to the type of amblyopic eye. Refractive amblyopia has the shortest course, refractive amblyopia has the second shortest course, and strabismic amblyopia has the longest course. (4) The duration of treatment is also related to the age of the amblyopic child. The younger the child, the shorter the course of treatment; the older the child, the longer the course of treatment.
