What to do if your newborn has eye drops

If a child is born with a layer of grayish-white stuff on the eyes, it is not eye drops. This layer of grayish-white stuff is medically called “fetal fat”, which protects the skin and prevents heat dissipation. When newborns are 2 to 3 months old, they may wake up in the morning with some eye drops on their eyes because their eyelashes tend to grow inward during this period and the eyeballs are stimulated by friction. You can wipe it off with a warm towel or use a cotton swab with 2% boric acid solution to gently wipe it off from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner of the eye. But it may also be a manifestation of some diseases, which need symptomatic treatment. 1, conjunctival inflammation: local drops of antibiotic eye drops and eye ointment can improve the symptoms, conjunctival irrigation helps the inflammation subside 2, neonatal dacryocystitis: massage the tear sac and nasolacrimal duct from the root of the nose to the direction of the nose, increasing the pressure in the duct, prompting the residual membrane to penetrate. When combined with bacterial infection, give anti-infection treatment. 3, gonococcal pustulosis: use 1% silver nitrate solution to dot the eyes, penicillin drugs are effective for this disease. 4, corneal ulcers: should immediately use an adequate amount of antibiotic drugs to control the infection and stop the ulcer from expanding. Treatment must be localized in the eye and systemic medication at the same time. 5. Eyelid entropion: Wipe the secretion clean with a warm towel, or you can use a cotton swab dipped in 2% boric acid solution and gently wipe it clean from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eye. If there is still entropion rubbing the eye after the bone development is complete, surgical correction can be considered.
