Hiccups can be treated by drinking water, medication, shock, and acupuncture throughout the day. There are more causes of hiccups, and the common ones are accumulation of food due to indigestion, shock, cold, and spasm of the diaphragm. Patients with milder symptoms of hiccups can quickly relieve hiccups by bending over at 90 degrees to drink water. Hiccups are caused by spasm of the diaphragm, and prolonged hiccups can lead to discomfort. They can be treated with antispasmodic drugs, commonly known as belladonna tablets, which are anticholinergic drugs that inhibit the secretion of glandular and gastric acids, relieving the stomach from causing pain and increasing acidity, while relieving local smooth muscle spasm and inhibiting hiccups. Patients with frequent hiccups who are in good health and have no other diseases can be inhibited from hiccups with sudden stimulation by patting them on the back without the patient’s knowledge, but this is not suitable for patients with heart disease or high blood pressure. In the case of stubborn hiccups, acupuncture can be performed at the local Chinese hospital to stop the hiccups with the stimulation of acupuncture points.
