Pediatric blinking and how to treat it?

Children blink with frequent paroxysmal blinking of the eyelids that cannot be controlled, and in severe cases, they have strange facial expressions such as twisted nose and crooked mouth. The child often complains of itchy eyes or foreign body sensation, and is more comfortable after frequent blinking, but is still ineffective with a variety of anti-inflammatory eye drops. The disease is a psychosomatic disorder, which is one of the stressful behaviors in children. It is usually seen in adolescents aged 4 to 16 years old, more in boys than in girls. Chinese medicine refers to pediatric blinking as “eye”. In the book, “The eye, the liver has the wind, the wind into the eye, up and down, left and right, like the wind blowing, not light and not heavy but can not let, so the eye also” description. According to traditional Chinese medicine, this disease is a result of children’s “excess liver and deficiency of spleen”, because the eyelids are the meat wheel and the spleen is the main muscle. Nowadays, most children are only children and are usually too spoiled and often have bad habits such as picky eating and partial eating, which makes the spleen and stomach function poor; if the attitude of lecturing is hard or the burden of study is increased and the children watch TV and play video games for a long time, the psychological pressure increases and facial muscle spasms appear. According to our clinical observation, the blood lead level of children with blinking is significantly higher than that of normal children, and the content of trace elements zinc and calcium in their hair is lower than that of normal children; the EEG of those with mild degree is basically normal, and those with moderate degree or above have abnormal EEG performance. Therefore, parents, classmates and teachers should not ridicule blinking children, but should provide psychological guidance; establish good dietary habits, supplement with foods high in zinc such as oysters and other seafood, calcium-rich milk and other foods, drink less carbonated beverages, eat less chocolate candy, do not eat fried foods such as burgers, and pay attention to avoiding lead pollution from the exhaust of cars on the road; reasonably arrange the study schedule. And with the spleen and benefit qi soft liver of Chinese medicine, such as tonic Chinese benefit qi soup: raw astragalus, atractylodes, white peony, poria, Chai Hu, asclepias, kudzu, red dates, yam, etc. can play a significant therapeutic effect.
