What is pelvic floor biofeedback therapy?

Biofeedback therapy originated in the 1970s. As a kind of biofeedback technology, the training of pelvic floor biofeedback is to use biofeedback instrument, by collecting myoelectricity of pelvic floor muscles, to amplify, process and provide “feedback” of physiological signals that are not easily perceived, and transform them into visible graphics and audible sounds, so that certain physiological activities can be perceived, and then through learning and Then, through learning and repeated practice, we can achieve control of nerve/muscle activity and autonomic nerve activity, become familiar with and master such physiological changes, mobilize “subjective initiative”, form and maintain self-control of specific parts of the body, and improve function. Simply put, biofeedback training is a process of continuous learning, “knowing oneself” and “changing oneself”. Currently, biofeedback therapy is carried out with anal manometry, pelvic floor surface electromyography assessment and diversified biofeedback treatment modes, mainly for patients with outlet obstruction constipation, mixed constipation, functional anorectal pain, pelvic floor relaxation syndrome, fecal incontinence and impaired sphincter function after anorectal surgery. Subjects can visualize the functional status of their pelvic floor muscles, learn how to relax and contract them appropriately, and improve the symptoms of the disease through exercises that help the damaged pelvic floor neuromuscles recover, improve blood supply, and increase muscle strength to promote the recovery of the entire pelvic floor muscle function.
