Treatment of obstructive hydrocephalus

Obstructive hydrocephalus has been a difficult problem in neurosurgical treatment. Ventriculo-peritoneal shunt is its conventional treatment. For some patients, complications such as shunt tube obstruction, excessive shunt, infection, etc. worsen the condition and even jeopardize their lives. The ventriculoscopy-assisted tricuspid fundoplication carried out in our department can overcome some complications of traditional shunt surgery and has a better therapeutic effect. The method is to use ventriculoscopy to create a fistula in the non-vascularized area at the base of the ventricles, so that the cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles above the obstruction can flow out smoothly, thus relieving hydrocephalus. This treatment does not alter the physiologic properties of the cerebrospinal fluid and does not cause symptoms of low cranial pressure. In addition, there is no foreign body implantation, which reduces the chance of infection. Therefore, it is a more ideal treatment method.
