Going from single eyelids to double eyelids requires a procedure called blepharoplasty. With double eyelids being the dominant aesthetic and the Asian blepharoplasty rate being only 50%, blepharoplasty is becoming the most common procedure in plastic and cosmetic surgery. The procedure focuses on the surgical attachment of the upper eyelid levator tendon membrane/blepharoplasty to the epidermis where the upper eyelid is reconstructed, resulting in the formation of a blepharoplasty. There are many clinical options for blepharoplasty, which can be categorized into non-incisional and incisional methods according to the surgical approach. The non-incisional approach is represented by the threaded procedure, while the incisional approach is the traditional surgical procedure. Not only do they have different procedures and results, but they also have their own advantages and disadvantages, so it’s important to look at them in practice to determine which one is better. Before discussing which is better, the threaded eyelid or the cut eyelid, let’s first look at the method of operation, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each. The first is the buried thread method, which mainly utilizes a ligature to fix the upper eyelid dermis, the upper edge of the eyelid plate and the levator ani muscle tendon membrane, in order to form a crease and achieve the purpose of blepharoplasty. Double eyelid incision method And the incision method, after continuous improvement, as well as the development of minimally invasive technology, there has been a small incision incision method. The small incision method utilizes a nylon thread to attach the upper eyelid crease dermis to the upper edge of the lid or the upper eyelid tendon membrane to form a blepharoplasty. Compared to the previous incision, the fibers of the upper eyelid muscle tendon membrane can be attached to the upper eyelid skin, and the skin can be sutured to the eyelid tissue under direct vision, which results in better tissue adhesion, guaranteed blepharoplasty results, and improved patient satisfaction. Secondly, the buried thread method has the advantages of short time consuming, simple operation, little trauma, slight postoperative swelling, no impact on work, etc., which is favorable to the acceptance of the patients. However, it is only suitable for young people who have good skin elasticity of the upper eyelid, no eye canthus, thin eyelids and normal eyelid tension. The upper eyelid crease tends to become narrower after the operation, and the thread knot is easy to fall off, so the possibility of the eyelid disappearing after the operation is higher, and it is difficult to make the eyelid effect satisfactory, and there are certain limitations in the application effect. The incision method has a wider range of applications and can solve many complex eyelid problems, such as upper eyelid swelling and inversion of the eyelashes, and has the advantage of long-lasting eyelid fixation and a deeper crease. Although there are postoperative complications such as swelling and pain, certain antibiotics can effectively improve the complication situation and will not aggravate the physical and mental burden of patients. In summary, in terms of operation complexity, safety and trauma, buried thread method is better. And in terms of effect maintenance time, adaptable range, incision method is better. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, so how should we choose? The most important thing is to choose under the doctor’s advice. Because the choice of the surgical method is not based on the wishes of the candidate or the doctor, but based on the eye condition of the candidate to ensure that the method is appropriate to protect the surgical effect. It also requires the surgeon to be skilled in operating techniques to avoid poor blepharoplasty results and adverse events due to poor technique. Even the best surgery may not be suitable for everyone. Therefore, you should always trust your doctor to come up with the best solution after comprehensive consideration, and never listen to advice and choose blindly! After all, the choice of medical beauty, is to become beautiful, rather than disfigurement or damage to the body! And medical beauty has risks, choose to be careful. References [1] Song Yang.
