How long does it take for a parotid tumor to heal?

Parotid tumors are mainly treated by surgery and usually take 2-3 months to heal basically. Parotid tumors can be locally swollen and painful in the early stage. As the mass increases in size, the patient’s mouth opening, chewing and speaking will be restricted. If the tumor invades the surrounding tissues, it can also affect the hearing and facial nerve function of the patient. The treatment of parotid tumor mainly relies on surgery. After surgical treatment of parotid tumor, the recovery of skin incision is fast, usually takes about 1 week; while the recovery of parotid gland gland takes 2-3 weeks. During the recovery period, patients should pay attention to control the diet and avoid stimulation to the wound. Due to the facial nerve in the parotid gland, some patients may experience symptoms of facial nerve damage after surgery, and may show signs of mouth and eye distortion and facial asymmetry, which usually take 2-3 months to return to normal. In addition, because of the richness of facial nerves and blood vessels, the scope of parotid tumor removal is usually not too extensive, so patients must have adjuvant radiotherapy after surgery in order to control the chance of recurrence.
