What does recurrent nosebleeds mean?

Rhinorrhea is one of the common symptoms of nasal disorders with many causes of bleeding, and the bleeding site is usually in the bleeding-prone area below the anterior nasal septum. In contrast, nasal bleeding in middle-aged and elderly people over 40 years old is mostly seen in the posterior part of the nasal cavity, generally caused by posterior nasal varices and the nasal-nasopharyngeal plexus behind the inferior turbinate, and also associated with hypertension in the elderly. As the incidence of hypertension increases with age, the incidence of rhinorrhea with hypertension as the etiology also increases significantly. Domestic scholars have reported that rhinorrhea caused by hypertension accounts for 10% to 25%. Patients are susceptible to mental or environmental changes, and rhinorrhea mostly occurs in the early morning or after activities. Because the bleeding site is in the posterior nasal tract, coupled with higher blood pressure and poor vascular elasticity, the bleeding is more violent. When patients see more bleeding, it will cause tension and increase blood pressure, resulting in more bleeding. Therefore, in case of nosebleeds in the elderly, it is important to stay calm, relax and spit out the blood flowing into the mouth as much as possible so as not to swallow and stimulate the stomach causing vomiting, and if the bleeding does not stop, go to the hospital for treatment immediately. It is worth being alert to the fact that repeated nasal bleeding is often a precursor to cerebral hemorrhage. Because of the hardening of the blood vessels in the nasal cavity of the elderly, the fibrous tissue of the vessel wall increases, the elasticity decreases and the brittleness increases. When the blood pressure rises before the cerebral blood vessels rupture, the small blood vessels in the nasal cavity will rupture first and nasal bleeding will occur. Therefore, elderly people with high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis should be vigilant. The current treatment for nasal bleeding mainly includes nasal cavity filling, microwave, laser and other therapies. After the operation, you should take antihypertensive drugs and hemostatic drugs with the help of the doctor, but do not lower the blood pressure too fast. Because many elderly people with high blood pressure, the important organs of the body have been relatively adapted to the state of high blood pressure, if the blood pressure is lowered too quickly, it can cause a sharp decrease in blood flow and affect the blood supply to the heart and brain and become dangerous. Elderly patients with nosebleeds should have a light and easy-to-digest diet, get enough sleep, be in a happy mood, and move slowly when getting up or lying down or having a bowel movement to prevent nosebleeds due to elevated blood pressure.
