Wu Zunyou, director of the Center for Sexual AIDS Prevention and Control of the Chinese CDC, summarized the achievements and challenges from 4 key aspects: the number of HIV tests in China reached 120 million in 2014, accounting for 1/3 of the global number of tests, and the HIV detection rate was 67%, making an important contribution to the world’s HIV prevention efforts. In terms of AIDS treatment, China has followed international guidelines and gradually relaxed treatment indications, with treatment coverage reaching 60% in 2014 and the disease and death rate decreasing year by year. Director Wu mentioned that all positive patients detected may be covered next year. In terms of interventions for key populations, China is placing a lot of emphasis on interventions for drug users, sex workers and men who have sex with men, with a view to reducing the number of new infections. The road ahead does not stop there, and the AIDS response still faces enormous challenges: patients are detected late; MSM infection rates continue to rise; and, more notably, the prevalence among young students continues to increase. Therefore, a greater responsibility awaits us!
