Benefits of water birth

The pain of childbirth is a pain that every mother has to experience, and most pregnant women are afraid of this pain; this is also the reason why the rate of cesarean delivery has remained high in recent years; with the improvement of medical care, the way of delivery has become diversified. Water birth has the advantages of reducing maternal pain, shortening the labor process and reducing birth canal lacerations, providing a new way to return to nature for pregnant women, which is widely praised. Water births are accompanied by family members, a warm environment, and a free and comfortable position, changing the traditional supine position of childbirth. It relaxes the mother physiologically and psychologically, reduces pain triggering factors and improves pain tolerance. After entering the birthing tank, the pain level is obviously reduced and the analgesic effect is obvious. The free position of the mother in the water and the relaxation of the muscles are beneficial to the dilatation of the uterus and accelerate the progress of labor. Warm water helps the mother to relax and eliminate fatigue, which makes the secretion of catecholamines in the body decrease and the perfusion of uterine blood flow increase, which is also conducive to the dilatation of the uterus, thus shortening the labor process. As the warm water softens the perineal tissue, it helps to stretch the perineum and the birth canal, and the upward force of the water when the fetus is delivered has a natural protective effect on the perineum, thus reducing the pressure of the fetal head on the perineum. Water birth can significantly reduce the rate of perineal incision, and the rate of perineal laceration is similar to that of traditional birth. The rate of perineal laceration is similar to that of traditional delivery. Water birth has less damage to perineum, lower rate of perineal lateralization, faster repair of pelvic floor muscles and nerves, and is conducive to the recovery of pelvic floor function, thus improving the quality of life of mothers.
