Steps in the treatment of pulpitis in the elderly

The treatment steps for pulpitis in the elderly are as follows: 1. After removing local irritants, reducible pulpitis has a certain probability of being restored to its original pulp state through pulp soothing and pulp capping treatment; 2. For teeth with irreducible pulpitis, the first step is to determine whether there is any retention value, and if there is retention value, root canal treatment should be chosen. First, open the pulp cavity, prepare the root canal, and remove the infected material, disinfect the root canal, place anti-inflammatory drugs in the root canal to relieve the patient’s symptoms; after the inflammation is controlled, tightly fill the root canal and then perform filling treatment; finally, perform crown restoration of the affected tooth to prevent splitting. If there is no retention value, the patient is informed that he/she can choose to extract the tooth if his/her physical condition allows, and after the patient gives informed consent, the patient is transferred to the appropriate department for extraction. If the tooth has a crown restoration, the crown should be removed; if there is no crown restoration, the original root filling should be removed after the assessment of the condition, and then the treatment should be carried out according to the steps described previously.
