Femoral head necrosis behind the scenes killer – “Tu Mao Tai”

There are often long-term alcoholic farmers who prefer the home-brewed rice wine from the countryside – “Tu Mao Tai”. However, long-term heavy drinking is prone to a disease with a high disability rate for young adults – femoral head necrosis. The disease, also known as ischemic necrosis of the femoral head, is one of the common bone and joint diseases. It can be caused by trauma, hormones, and alcohol. Its main symptoms are gradual development from intermittent pain to persistent pain, then pain triggering muscle spasm, joint movement restriction, and finally severe disability and claudication. The treatment of osteonecrosis includes non-surgical treatment and surgical treatment. The specific choice of treatment needs to be determined according to the severity of osteonecrosis of the femoral head, which means that it needs to be combined with the stage of osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Avoid abuse of adrenocorticosteroid drugs, such as betamethasone, beclomethasone, prednisone, etc. At present, hormone abuse is still common, and even hormones are used for colds, fever and joint pain, which undoubtedly increases the chance of ischemic necrosis of the femoral head. When hormones must be used, the principle of short-term and moderate doses should be followed. Large doses, even for short term use, may induce osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Prevention of alcoholic femoral head necrosis lies in reducing alcohol consumption and avoiding alcohol abuse, which can be done in small amounts. In working life, one should be more careful and strengthen the awareness of self-protection of the hip to avoid trauma. In sports activities or when carrying or carrying heavy objects, avoid hip sprains and try not to do overly heavy work.
