Knowledge about keratomileusis

  I. Nature
It is a non-surgical myopia correction method, under the guidance of a physician or optometrist
  II. Main efficacy
  1. Patients can have good naked eye vision during the daytime (12-16 hours out of 24 hours) when their eyes are in a non-myopic or lower myopic state, without any glasses.
  2. For adolescent patients, it can effectively curb the rapid deepening of myopia.
  III. Treatment Method
A special hard contact lens is designed according to the patient’s corneal parameters, processed and produced with highly breathable materials, and allowed to be worn by the patient.
  IV. Correction process
Treatment is divided into two main phases.
  First, the first two weeks are the treatment period, allowing the patient’s vision or reduced prescription to reach the expected state. During this period, the physician or optometrist closely tracks the patient’s condition and adjusts the treatment plan in a timely manner, including the wearing method, the length of wearing time, adjusting the lenses, and adding supplementary medications. Patients must follow up and cooperate with the treatment according to the regulations and medical advice;
After the completion of the treatment period, the orthodontic process enters the maintenance period, where patients need to wear lenses for a period of time (8-10) every day or every other day to maintain the treatment effect, depending on the individual’s condition. Patients will have monthly follow-up appointments, stop wearing their lenses automatically in case of abnormalities, order their own antibiotic eye drops and contact their physician or optometrist in a timely manner.
  V. Expected correction effect
  Pre-corrective prescription
The effect after 10 days of wearing
Visual acuity or reduction in prescription
  Less than 300 degrees
Naked eye vision improved to 1.0 or more
  90% or more
  325 degrees to 500 degrees
Naked eye acuity improved to 0.8 or more
  80% or more
  525 degrees to 600 degrees
Visual acuity improved to 0.6 or above
  70% or more
  VI. Principle of correction
The optics of myopia is that parallel incident light enters the human eye and gathers in front of the retina, i.e. the refractive power of the eye is too high. By wearing specially designed Mondial shaping lenses, the shape of the corneal surface can be reasonably changed to reduce the refractive power of the eye, thus reducing or even eliminating myopia. This principle is the same as that of laser surgery. Except that laser surgery permanently grinds away some of the tissue inside the cornea, while keratoplasty works on the outer surface of the cornea (epithelium) without touching any of the internal corneal tissue.
The corneal epithelium is elastic and the cells of the corneal tissue have a “memory” and tend to return to their previous state. Therefore, they need to be worn daily (or every other day in some cases) to maintain the orthodontic effect.
