Get out of the misunderstanding of high myopia

Myth 1: High myopia is not a disease
In general, simple myopia below 600 degrees is not considered a “disease”. However, high myopia is not only a high degree of myopia, but also may be combined with vitreous and retinal lesions, which can cause blindness in serious cases and belong to the category of “disease”.
Myth 2: High myopia is a very serious disease
Some people with high myopia are worried about their “height” and even lose confidence in life.
This is not desirable, the disease “attention” is not a bad thing, but can not be overly worried. Although high myopia has more complications that seriously affect vision (such as retinal detachment, macular hemorrhage, etc.) than the general population, but the incidence is not too high, and with the development of medicine, as long as early detection, early treatment, can get better treatment results.
Myth 3, glasses wear a full degree is harmful to the eyes
Many people do everything possible to reduce the number of glasses in order to protect their eyes, which is not right.
For example, for a 1000 degree myopia patient, wearing glasses or not, wearing 100 degrees, 500 degrees or 1000 degrees of glasses, will not have much effect on the degree of the eyes, and fundus disease change is irrelevant.
Therefore, under the premise of ensuring the appearance of glasses and wearing without obvious discomfort, try to correct to a better vision and improve the quality of life.
Of course, for overcorrection and children with high myopia is a different story.
Myth 4: High myopia is the result of children watching TV and playing with computers
High myopia is a genetic eye disease, the development of its degree is largely caused by genetic and developmental factors, and the acquired environmental influences (such as watching TV and playing with computers) are not very relevant.
Television and computers are effective ways for children to receive new knowledge and new things, so children should not be completely excluded from these electronic products.
Myth 5: Surgery can treat high myopia
Myopia surgery only eliminates myopia (equivalent to wearing a pair of glasses in the cornea or eye), but does not affect the myopic eye itself, i.e. the organic lesions associated with high myopia still exist.
Myth 6, high myopia patients should not be strenuous activities
Strenuous head activities should be appropriately limited, such as bungee jumping, diving, boxing, etc.; while general sports such as playing ball and running should not be restricted.
Myth 7: Pregnant women with high myopia cannot have a normal delivery
There are often highly myopic pregnant women ask “can I have a normal delivery?” They say they are afraid of the potential risk of retinal detachment.
Whether or not retinal detachment occurs during labor in highly myopic pregnant women is not directly related to the labor process (at most, it is a causative factor), but the presence of certain lesions in the fundus is the main reason for retinal detachment. It is easy to understand that “sneezing” is never the cause of retinal detachment.
Therefore, it is possible to have a normal delivery if no serious lesions are found in the fundus of the eye during the prenatal period.
