Definition of cervical spondylosis: Cervical spondylosis is a series of clinical symptoms and signs manifested by compression of structures such as the crestal medulla, nerves and blood vessels due to degenerative changes in the cervical spine and secondary intervertebral joints. Cervical spondylosis, as we often call it, is generally divided into five types according to clinical manifestations: 1. Cervical type (also known as myocervical spondylosis): The main problem is cervical myofasciitis (i.e., aseptic fasciitis of the neck musculature due to acute trauma, chronic strain, environmental, psychological and other factors), which in turn causes chronic pain in the back of the neck, shoulders and neck. It is usually aggravated in the morning after waking up or after a sudden cooling of the weather, and after a localized cold in the neck. It is usually relieved by activity or heat, but recurs frequently. There is usually no obvious problem on imaging. 2.Neurogenic cervical spondylosis: It is caused by cervical disc herniation or osteophytes that stimulate and compress the nerve roots. The pain is mostly localized in the neck and shoulder at the beginning, and it will worsen and radiate to the upper limbs in a short period of time. The skin may have numbness, allergy and other sensory abnormalities, and there may be weakness of the upper limbs and inflexible finger movements at the same time. When the posture of the head or upper limb is improper, or when the posture of the upper limb changes suddenly, there may be acute pain like “electric shock”. 3.Crestal medullary cervical spondylosis: caused by compression of the crestal medulla. Usually the upper limbs or lower limbs will feel numbness and stiffness, and there will be a feeling of stepping on cotton under the feet, always feeling that the ground is not solid. It is also usually accompanied by tactile impairment, a feeling of chest binding (a feeling of strangulation with something tied to the chest), and a deterioration of fine motor skills in the hands (e.g., trembling in writing, weakness in holding things, and frequent dropping of objects in the hand). In later stages, there may even be urinary and bowel dysfunction such as frequent urination or difficulty in urination and defecation. (At this point, surgery is already indicated, and you must seek medical attention as soon as possible!) 4. Sympathetic cervical spondylosis: The main manifestation is sympathetic nerve irritation symptoms. For example, headache, migraine, dizziness, especially when the head is turned, is aggravated. It may also be accompanied by nausea and vomiting, vision loss, hearing loss, tinnitus, arrhythmia, rapid heartbeat and other symptoms. Or sympathetic nerve suppression-like symptoms: such as dizziness, tearing, nasal congestion, bradycardia, decreased blood pressure or even gas, etc., may be caused by cervical spine problems. 5.Vertebral artery type cervical spondylosis: Various problems caused by compression of the vertebral artery. For example, tinnitus, hearing loss, visual impairment, and slurred pronunciation. Even sudden collapse due to sudden vertigo. Because the vertebral artery is surrounded by sympathetic nerves, it can produce symptoms similar to sympathetic cervical spondylosis. If there is another type, it is a mixed type of cervical spondylosis in which two or more, the above types are compounded.
