Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation may be the only treatment that can eradicate chronic granulocytic leukaemia. HSCT is not often used in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia due to the age of the patient and other reasons. Drug treatment for both chronic granulocytic leukaemia and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia is more effective and can lead to long-term survival or even complete cure for some patients, with long-term outcomes comparable to haematopoietic stem cell transplantation and higher life treatment, and has become the mainstream of treatment.
However, it is important to note that HSCT is not a first-line treatment option and is usually only used for patients who have failed first-line therapy, are at high risk, relapsed or advanced, and that HSCT may also cause complications such as infection, bleeding and rejection.
