How long can I live with chronic leukaemia?

The prognosis of chronic leukaemia depends on a variety of factors, including gender, age, physical status, concomitant disease, laboratory test indicators, staging and treatment outcome. Aggressive, regular treatment is usually effective in improving patients’ quality of life and prolonging survival.
Prior to the tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) era, the average survival time for chronic granulocytic leukaemia was 39-47 months. Currently with TKI treatment, survival in chronic granulocytic leukaemia is greatly extended and is close to that of the normal cohort. In the case of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, survival times tend to vary considerably from patient to patient, with varying lengths of disease. However, if left untreated, chronic leukaemia may progress rapidly and have a poor prognosis.
