Is glutamyl transpeptidase 500 serious?

Glutamyl transpeptidase, or γ-GT, is a more common clinical liver function test enzyme index, its normal value is 3-50U/L, greater than this range is considered as high glutamyl transpeptidase. Generally, when glutamyl transpeptidase reaches 500U/L, it means the index is high and needs further examination, which should be analyzed with other clinical information. Since glutamyl transpeptidase is mainly present in the liver, it is usually mildly to moderately elevated in acute hepatitis, chronic active hepatitis and hepatic stiffness loss, and a significant increase in glutamyl transpeptidase can occur when obstructive jaundice is present. In addition to liver damage in patients with liver disease, elevated glutamyl transpeptidase can also be caused in healthy people taking sleeping pills and anti-diabetic drugs. Some people have progressive myotonic dystrophy caused by high work pressure and environmental pollution, which eventually causes high glutamyl transpeptidase. Therefore, when glutamyl transpeptidase reaches 500 U/L, it is recommended to go to the hospital for a series of other related examinations in time, and after determining the specific cause of the disease, patients should actively take effective treatment measures to avoid adverse consequences.
