Why does cervical spondylosis cause stomach pain?

Have you ever thought that it might be a cervical spine problem when you have stomach discomfort? Sometimes you feel sick to your stomach, but after examination, you find no ulcer or gastritis, and taking stomach medicine does not help. This is when we have to consider another possibility: cervicogastric syndrome. The so-called cervicogastric syndrome is a misalignment of the cervical spine that stimulates the nerves in the internal organs, which in turn causes symptoms of stomach discomfort. Under normal circumstances, when people eat, they send information to the brain through the visceral nerves, and then the brain processes and sends orders to the stomach through the visceral nerves, so that the stomach glands secrete gastric acid to promote food digestion. If the cervical vertebrae are misaligned, the misalignment will adversely stimulate the visceral nerves distributed around the cervical vertebrae, and when the generated signal is transmitted to the brain, it will make the brain mistakenly believe that it is transmitted from the stomach and reflexively give orders to promote the secretion of gastric acid, which in turn will lead to symptoms similar to ulcer disease such as increased appetite, burning heartburn, acid reflux and belching, pain when hungry, and relief after eating. In addition, the visceral nerve has an opposite function that inhibits gastrointestinal secretion and peristalsis. If this visceral nerve is stimulated by the cervical misalignment, the brain will give orders to reduce gastric acid secretion and inhibit gastrointestinal peristalsis, and a series of symptoms such as lack of food and drink, abdominal distension, burping and belching, vague pain in the upper abdomen, and even nausea and vomiting will occur. Cervicogastric syndrome is often combined with other symptoms of visceral nerve disorders. If the patient has stomach discomfort and the digestive system is fine, go to the Department of Orthopedics and Chiropractic to check whether there is any obvious misalignment of the cervical spine. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the cervical spine disease will be treated and relieved according to medical advice, and the stomach discomfort will naturally disappear.
