What is considered obese

  Overweight has become a global epidemic. In addition to the serious psychological and social problems brought about by obesity itself, the occurrence and development of many diseases that threaten human health and even affect the life expectancy of patients are related to obesity, and even are direct complications of obesity, including coronary heart disease, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and some skin soft tissue diseases and osteoarthritis.  According to the characteristics of the population in the Asia-Pacific region, the Chinese Society of Medical Surgery Branch in 2007 formulated the “Chinese obesity disease surgical treatment guidelines” pointed out that there are two methods of measuring obesity, one for the body mass index [body mass index, BMI, BMI = weight (kg) M height (O)] as an indicator, adult BMI classification as follows: (1) healthy: 18.5-22.9, ( 2) overweight: 23.0-24.9, (3) 1 degree of obesity: 25.0-29.9, (4) 2 degree of obesity: 30.0-34.9, (5) 3 degree of obesity: >35.0. two for the abdominal circumference is a simple calculation method, male ≥ 90cm, female ≥ 80cm for obesity.
