Both the application and removal of the prosthetic eye piece require clean hands, with one hand peeling back the upper and lower eyelids while applying or removing the prosthetic eye piece with the other hand. The patient should wash and sterilize his/her hands before putting on the prosthesis to avoid bacterial infection in the eye. To install the prosthetic eye, the upper eyelid of the affected eye is raised with one hand, and the other hand pinches the lower part of the prosthetic eye and pushes it into the eye from the bottom up into the eye socket, after which the upper and lower lids are closed so that the lids and the eyelids wrap around the prosthetic eye. After installation, blinking can be attempted to adjust the prosthesis to the ocular cavity. To remove the prosthetic eye, gently press on the lower eyelid after disinfecting your hands, and then gently lift the prosthetic eye piece to remove it from the top down. First-time wear or removal of the eye prosthesis should be done under the supervision of a medical professional to avoid improper handling that may scratch the eye socket or cause infection in the eye. It is recommended that patients who experience eye discomfort while wearing a prosthetic eye should seek medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
