Skin Care Basics

The skin care products used by doctors to assist in the treatment of skin diseases can be referred to as “medical skin care products”, which, compared with ordinary skin care products, require the following three characteristics: 1. Higher safety: more emphasis than ordinary skin care products on streamlined formulations, strict screening of raw materials, no or as little as possible substances that can easily damage the skin or cause skin allergies, such as pigments, fragrances The product is free from or minimized to contain skin damaging or skin allergic substances such as color, fragrance, preservatives, irritating surfactants, etc., and clinical safety assessment of raw materials as far as possible. 2. 2. clear efficacy: the main product ingredients of moisturizing and skin barrier repair function skin care products have clear mechanism of action and have been confirmed by scientific experimental research. 3. Clinical validation in multiple hospitals: Clinical studies conducted by dermatology departments in multiple hospitals before marketing to verify the clinical efficacy and safety of skin care products. From the above 3 characteristics, it is clear that medical skin care products themselves have no toxic side effects on the skin and can be used for a long time as appropriate to reduce or alleviate the recurrence of skin diseases. I. Basic raw materials of medical skin care products 1. wet agent raw materials including glycerin, urea, etc., which can absorb water from the environment and replenish the water lost from the stratum corneum emanation. 2. sealing agent raw materials such as petroleum jelly, avocado oil, etc., can form a thin hydrophobic oil film on the skin surface, which has the effect of reinforcing the skin barrier. 3. Add “bionic” raw materials with the same or similar composition as epidermis and dermis, which have the effect of repairing skin barrier, such as natural moisturizing factor, cymbopogon oil, ceramide, hyaluronic acid, etc. The common skin diseases that require the use of medical skin care products 1. psoriasis Psoriasis is a chronic disease that manifests itself as repeated large flakes at the skin lesions, often aggravated in the dry winter climate. The basic treatment of psoriasis is moisturizing and skin care, while using the corresponding topical drugs or ultraviolet light therapy, and if necessary, using systemic oral or injectable drugs. However, the oral medication of the disease, such as Avion or phototherapy, can aggravate the dryness of the skin, therefore, it is more necessary to cooperate with moisturizing and skin care at this time. 2. eczema, atopic dermatitis Eczema or atopic dermatitis is the most common kind of chronic recurrent skin disease, in the acute phase manifested as swelling, erosion, exudation, in the chronic phase manifested as dry, flaky. Therefore moisturizing skin care products are the basis of treatment for the chronic phase of these disorders (skin care products are not recommended during the acute vesicular and exudative phase). For patients in the mild chronic stage, moisturizing skin care products alone may alleviate the condition, but for patients who are persistent or with significant skin lesions, moisturizing skin care should be used in conjunction with drug therapy. After the lesions are controlled, you can consider stopping the medication and continue to use moisturizing skin care products to reduce the recurrence of this type of dermatitis. For patients with atopic dermatitis, even normal-looking skin is dry, so they also need to use moisturizing skin care products to reduce their flare-ups. 3. dry skin pruritus The disease occurs in autumn and winter, especially in middle-aged and elderly people who have decreased sebaceous gland function and are more likely to have dry or itchy clinical symptoms. The use of moisturizing skin care products alone can generally significantly reduce the symptoms, but long-term use is required, if necessary, with oral antihistamines, and do not over-clean the skin. Facial seborrheic dermatitis Facial seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic dermatitis that occurs in areas rich in sebaceous glands. The skin is dry, flaky and prone to recurrence due to the obvious impairment of skin barrier function at the lesion. Mild patients are effective with moisturizing skin care products alone; for recalcitrant patients, short-term topical medications are used on top of moisturizing skin care. For seborrheic dermatitis with significant oiliness in the nasolabial folds or nasal bridge can be combined with the use of oil-control skin care products. Rosacea Rosacea is a chronic dermatitis that occurs mainly in the central part of the face, such as the cheeks, forehead, perioral or nasal area, mainly manifested as paroxysmal flushing in the central part of the face, and the flushing is aggravated by sun exposure, emotional excitement or temperature rise, and can appear facial vascular hyperplasia and red papules, pustules, a few patients can appear red or hypertrophy of the nose (so this disease can also be called “rosacea”). Clinically, the vast majority of patients occurring on the cheeks and around the mouth are accompanied by dryness and flaking due to varying degrees of impaired skin barrier function, so it is important to moisturize and skincare while taking oral medications. However, patients who have the condition on the nose often have oily skin, so it is advisable to use oil-control skin care products. 6. Hormone Dependent Dermatitis Hormone dependent dermatitis is a chronic dermatitis in which the skin barrier is severely broken due to long-term topical use of hormone drugs or topical use of skin care products containing hormones. However, after stopping the use of hormones for about 3 days, there will be a rebound of symptoms (i.e. unbearable dryness, itching, burning and other symptoms will increase), so you must insist on using moisturizing skin care products. 7. Sensitive skin Facial skin due to impaired skin barrier function and clinical manifestations such as tingling, burning, dryness, redness, but not due to a specific skin disease caused by this phenomenon in the medical term “sensitive skin”, the common causes are as follows: facial skin a subhealthy state: often due to dry climate, environmental pollution, poor skin care habits or the patient’s skin, Environmental pollution, poor skin care habits or patients with neurological disorders and induced. Medication for skin diseases: such as acne or psoriasis oral retinoids, one of the side effects of such drugs is to cause temporary impairment of skin barrier function, which causes dryness and flaking of the skin or mucous membrane of the mouth and lips. Minimally invasive treatment of dermatological diseases: such as modern laser or fruit acid peeling treatment although it has brought breakthroughs to dermatological diseases and skin beauty, but this treatment has a temporary damage effect on the skin barrier function, to deal with sensitive skin, mainly using moisturizing skin care products. Third, the use of precautions face: use medical mild non-stimulating cleanser, and after cleansing the face use moisturizing water, and then moisturizing skin care products, while going out to use sun protection appliances, and external medical mild non-stimulating sunscreen, but in the acute phase of dermatitis, need to be careful with sunscreen. Torso extremities: use only water or mild non-irritating medical skin cleanser after cleaning, apply medical moisturizing skin care products. If you need to use topical medication, apply moisturizing skin care products to increase the hydration level of the skin, and then apply medication after 30 minutes or so. Types of moisturizing skin care products: commonly used for cream, but also for gel, water or mask, etc. There are many types of medical skin care products on the market, how to choose the variety, how to choose the type clinically, should be under the guidance of a doctor, according to the characteristics of the skin to make the right choice.
