How to treat compression fractures

Compression fractures are most common in the lumbar spine, and relatively few in the thoracic or cervical spine. Treatment of compression fractures includes both conservative and surgical treatment. If the fracture is relatively stable and mild, not exceeding 1/3 of the vertebral body, surgery is not required and can be treated conservatively, mainly by lying on a hard bed and braking, with soft padding at the injured site and extension behind the waist. Generally need to lie flat on a hard bed for 3-6 months. At the same time, rehabilitation exercises should be carried out in a timely manner under the guidance of a professional doctor, and rehabilitation exercises should be started as early as possible to increase the muscle strength of the low back and restore the stability of the spine. For severe compression fractures, more than 2/3 of the vertebral body, or symptoms of nerve compression, can be treated surgically, one can do, plate or internal fixation to do the fixation of the fracture site, also can inject bone cement to improve the symptoms of pain caused by compression fractures. Since most of the compression fractures are related to osteoporosis, corresponding treatment measures should also be taken for osteoporosis when doing treatment. Commonly used clinical drugs include: 1. basic treatment drugs, including vitamin D, calcium. 2, anti-bone resorption drugs. 3, pro-bone formation drugs. 4, Chinese herbal medicine, mainly including kidney and bone strengthening drugs. For compression fracture treatment must choose a reasonable treatment, inappropriate treatment may cause serious sequelae.
