Does the glans of AIDS patients itch?

HIV does not cause itchy glans because HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system and causes a decrease in CD4-T lymphocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells after infection. When CD4-T lymphocytes are reduced to a certain level, the patient may develop opportunistic infections such as Pneumocystis pneumonia, Cryptococcal meningitis, and Candida albicans esophagitis due to severe impairment of the immune system. During this period patients may also develop secondary opportunistic infections of the penis such as glansitis and prepuce, with the possibility of itching of the glans. The main treatment for opportunistic infections is anti-infective therapy, using antiviral drugs to treat HIV, which allows the patient’s immune system to gradually recover through antiviral therapy.
