Myelofibrosis is a refractory blood disease for which there is no specific drug treatment. In addition to allogeneic bone marrow transplantation, there is no means and methods to cure this disease. Modern medical treatment of this disease mainly includes: 1. Correcting anemia: glucocorticoids, androgens, erythropoietin (EPO) and immunomodulators (e.g., thalidomide) can be applied, which have low efficiency and certain side effects. 2. reducing the size of the spleen. According to Chinese medicine, this disease belongs to the range of “Laoyi” diseases. On the one hand, the patient has pale or yellowish color, tiredness and fatigue, panic and shortness of breath, low-grade fever and night sweating, emaciation, waist and leg weakness, etc., which are the manifestations of “deficiency of blood and labor”, such as deficiency of essence, qi and blood in liver, spleen and kidneys; on the other hand, the patient also has enlarged spleen, lumps under the dorsal area, which are hard and immovable, fullness of the epigastrium, abdominal distension, and bone pains. On the other hand, there are also signs of “Y accumulation” of toxins, stagnation of blood and gas. Therefore, the diagnosis of the disease is always a deficiency of the standard, mixed evidence of deficiency and reality. Treatment should be based on the principle of replenishing the deficiency and draining the solid, taking both the symptoms and the root cause into consideration, and taking supporting the correctness and nourishing the blood, resolving the blood stasis and driving away the evil spirits, dispersing the hardness and eliminating the accumulation as the main method. The number of drugs is small but the quantity of drugs is large.3. With blood tonic drugs, use kidney tonic and essence filling drugs to produce blood: Zi He Che as the main drug, with kidney yang deficiency with antler gelatin, immortal spleen, tonic bone resin, baji tian, Cistanche, etc.; with kidney yin deficiency with goji berry, araliaceae, chasteberry, etc.4. Resolve blood stasis and activate blood circulation, and soften and disperse knots of the drugs: Hovenia cepa, Purple salvia, peach kernel, curcuma longa, soft-shelled turtle shell, turtle shells, leeches, etc..5. Removing heat and removing toxins to fight against cancer: White Flower Snake Tongue Clover, Mountain Cichlid Mushroom, Cat’s Claw Clover, Sempervirens, Radix Bupleurum, etc. 6. Qingdai Sihuang San external compresses on the spleen area: 60 g of Qingdai powder and 20 g of Sihuang powder (our preparation: rhubarb, cypress, etc.) are mixed thoroughly, and then made into a paste with water, and then put on the spleen area, covered with plastic film and fixed with adhesive tape, and applied for 6~8 h/time, 1 time/d. The amount of Qingdai is appropriately increased in the case of giant spleen. Applying the above methods of Chinese medicine treatment and external compresses on the spleen area, together with the conventional modern medical treatment, we counted the treatment effect of 46 cases of myelofibrosis patients, of which 14 cases were improved, 25 cases were progressed, 7 cases were ineffective, and the total effective rate was 84.7%. It shows that this kind of combined treatment of Chinese and western medicine has better efficacy, and has obvious advantages over pure western medicine treatment.
