Inguinal hernia has a recurrence rate after tension-free inguinal hernia repair. The first symptom of recurrence after inguinal hernia surgery is the presence of a mass in the affected inguinal region, which may be accompanied by localized swelling or pain. In some cases, the mass is not obvious and the patient is seen for recurrent painful swelling and discomfort in the postoperative incision. Ultrasound examination of the inguinal region can determine whether there is a new hernia, which may not be of the same type as the last surgical hernia, and cannot simply be considered a recurrent hernia, but sometimes it may be a new hernia, only that the type of hernia before and after is not the same.
