Difficult and expensive to see a doctor has long been a social problem. Is it really difficult and expensive to see a doctor in China? Is my answer! Yang Yufei, Department of Oncology, Xiyuan Hospital, Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine Not long ago, a Chinese who returned to China from the United States with advanced pancreatic cancer was admitted to the Hospital of Swelling Diseases of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences for surgery and came to our oncology outpatient clinic to seek Chinese medical treatment, I asked him: “You have medical insurance in the United States, why do you have to pay for your own treatment in China?” He said, “In the U.S. to wait for surgery, at least 3 months later, while I came to China, I can have surgery in only 1 month at one-tenth of the cost, and as long as I don’t run out of money, I can find the best doctor for surgery and treatment.” Last week, another woman who rushed back from Canada for surgery was diagnosed with mid-stage endometrial cancer in Beijing and spent 50,000 yuan on surgery plus chemotherapy. She said, “I can’t afford to wait, and I can’t afford to find a private hospital abroad, so I only need one-tenth of the treatment available in Canada to solve the problem at home.” Recently, I received another letter from a lung cancer patient in Japan asking for Chinese medical treatment in China …… We are fortunate that every tumor patient in China can be treated promptly from beginning to end, without having to wait in line for months to be seen by specialists. Foreign oncologists only see up to ten patients per half day, while Chinese oncologists see 30 to 50 patients per half day. In foreign countries, term cancer patients have no clinical research value and can only receive palliative care in the community, while Chinese cancer patients can still be hospitalized and receive the best comprehensive palliative care even at the hospice stage. I don’t think it is difficult or expensive to see a doctor in China, but rather Chinese doctors have to pay more and get less than foreign doctors. Chinese tumor patients are lucky, as long as they don’t listen to small advertisements, don’t believe in traveling doctors, and receive regular treatment in regular hospitals, they will get the best treatment of international level at one tenth of the price abroad. In the face of tumor, we need to accept three concepts first: First, tumor is not an incurable disease. The current medical development is changing rapidly, so that many tumors can be cured from incurable to curable, and the overall cure rate of tumors has reached more than 50%, so don’t give up when you have tumors, especially for early and middle stage patients, they can be completely cured after comprehensive treatment and long-term treatment, but generally need 5 years of follow-up and examination. Surgery is my first suggestion. Secondly, most tumors are incurable at advanced stage, but some of them can survive with tumor for a long time. In order to get twice the result with half the effort, it is necessary to use reasonable medicine and spend reasonable money according to the actual situation. Some tumors, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer, can survive with tumor even in advanced stage, and there are very good and cheap endocrine treatments, so you should not blindly apply the so-called supplements, which may make the disease more serious; and you should not give up the treatment, so that the curable disease becomes incurable. But some tumors, such as liver cancer or pancreatic cancer, can’t be saved even if money is piled up at the advanced stage, so it is more important to use drugs and money rationally. Thirdly, there are still many mysteries of tumors that have not been solved by modern medicine. Even for the most difficult tumors, even at the most advanced stage, don’t give up hope. We found that in the process of simple TCM treatment, a few patients can survive with tumors for a long time, and TCM herbal treatment is the cheapest, so if you don’t take Chinese medicine, but only take herbal medicine with the best individualized effect, the monthly cost of hundreds of dollars can sometimes solve the problem. Not to give up and not to abandon is what we doctors, patients’ families and patients themselves should insist on trying. If you want to know more about how to spend money correctly and rationally when facing tumor treatment, and how to spend every penny on the edge. If you want to know more about how to spend money properly and rationally in the face of tumor treatment and how to spend every penny wisely, you can read “The Way of Medical Treatment and Money for Tumor Patients” published by People’s Health Publishing House, which is edited by our department. “I sincerely hope that this book will be a good reference for oncology patients. I sincerely hope that this book will be a bright light in the darkness for tumor patients and their families, bringing them light and hope, light and inspiration.
