Imaging of pancreatitis

Pancreatitis is divided into acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis. Acute pancreatitis can be further divided into acute edematous pancreatitis and acute hemorrhagic necrotizing pancreatitis. The main imaging manifestations of acute edematous pancreatitis are enlarged pancreatic volume and blurring of the peripancreatic fat space. Patients with acute pancreatitis have a more acute onset, more severe clinical symptoms, and significantly elevated blood and urine amylase. The imaging manifestations of chronic pancreatitis are pancreatic volume reduction, mild dilatation of pancreatic ducts, scattered calcified spots within the pancreatic travel zone, and pancreatic pseudocysts, which are also a concomitant sign of chronic pancreatitis.
