Over the past few years, an increase in the incidence of thyroid cancer has been confirmed worldwide. This is also the case in our country, where the incidence of thyroid cancer is increasing year by year in both men and women, more significantly in women. The peak incidence of thyroid cancer is mainly in young adults, with two peak age groups: 7-20 years old and 45-50 years old, and the latter is the majority, which has a huge impact on patients and their families. The prognosis of thyroid cancer after surgery is still relatively good, but due to the special physiological structure of thyroid gland, the tumor often grows infiltratively or diffusely with unclear borders, which makes radical surgery more difficult, so some patients are difficult to be completely surgically cured even after a clear diagnosis. There are also some patients who have successfully undergone radical surgery, but the disease recurs after surgery due to improper conditioning and overexertion, which require further treatment. Ancestral medicine has an early understanding of thyroid cancer. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Chen Wuzhe described in his “Three Causes Formula” that “stone gall” is characterized by hardness and immovability, which is quite similar to modern thyroid cancer. According to the medical scholars, the occurrence of thyroid cancer is related to a variety of external and internal factors, and it is closely related to the three Yin meridians (liver, spleen and kidney). In the treatment of thyroid cancer, TCM adopts the treatment principle of helping the righteous to dispel the evil. To help the positive, we use methods such as strengthening the spleen, tonifying the kidneys and nourishing the liver to help patients restore their positive energy, promote immune function and endocrine function, and alleviate the adverse effects caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The methods of dispelling evil are combined with activating blood, softening hardness, dispersing nodules and clearing heat and detoxifying toxins, which are proven to have certain anti-cancer effects in pharmacological experiments. The combination of means to support the righteousness and dispel the evil can be widely used in the treatment of thyroid cancer that is not suitable for surgery, or recurrence after surgery, or symptoms of physical weakness, fatigue, hoarseness, dry mouth, red tongue with little coating or pale fat tongue caused by surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other treatment means.
