Is 37 weeks considered preterm labor?

37 weeks is not considered preterm labor, and it is a normal time for a woman to give birth at 37 weeks of pregnancy. Therefore, there is no need for family members to worry excessively. After 37 weeks of gestation in a woman’s body, the fetus is fully developed and the functions of all organs can reach the normal standard, so it is safer to give birth at this time. Premature birth refers to newborns who are 28 weeks of gestation but less than 37 weeks, called premature babies. Premature babies need professional care after birth because their body organs are not fully developed. At 37 weeks of gestation, if the fetus is developing normally, the fetus has a mature heart and lung function and an increased body fat content, so if the pregnancy is terminated at this time the fetus has a high chance of survival. However, it is worth noting that if there is no clinical indication for termination of pregnancy at this time, pregnant women are advised to continue the pregnancy. Because after 37 weeks of pregnancy, the fetus starts to have a fetal position in operation. Gradually, the fetus drops its head in preparation for delivery. After the birth of the newborn, attention should be paid to the surrounding environment and the room should be kept airy. Avoid harsh lighting, so that the newborn gradually establish the concept of day and night.
