ICL lens implantation for myopia treatment consultation process

In order to ensure the most expeditious completion of the examination and surgery for out-of-town patients, please make sure to come to the examination on Monday morning at 8:00 am, otherwise you may miss the surgery on Wednesday resulting in a longer stay in Beijing. If you have relevant examination information from local hospitals, it is best to bring it to Beijing together for the doctor’s reference. Step 1: Eye examination: (stop wearing soft contact lenses for 3-5 days, hard RGP glasses, keratoconus lenses for 2-4 weeks before the examination) to determine if the eye condition is suitable for surgery: (about 700-1000 RMB, takes half a day or 1 day) (1) Routine eye examination: cornea, lens, fundus, intraocular pressure, etc. (2) Refractive examination: dilated pupil examination. (3) IOL prescription determination: anterior chamber depth, eye axis, corneal curvature, horizontal diameter of cornea, OCT, etc. (4) Depending on the patient’s specific situation, some other further tests may be performed, such as fundus photography, posterior segment OCT, ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), visual field, one-day IOP measurement, etc. (5) A repeat examination is required the day after the dilated eye exam. Therefore, the complete examination will take at least two days. Based on the results, the doctor will determine whether the eye condition is ready for surgery and predict the post-surgical visual acuity results, and the doctor will communicate with the patient to determine whether to perform the surgery. Step 2: After the surgery is clearly possible: 1. Pre-operative routine blood tests: routine blood, HBsAg, HIV antibody, HCV antibody, syphilis antibody, liver function, kidney function, coagulation function (the results will be available in 1 day after the blood is drawn in our hospital, or in the local hospital for more than 200 yuan, it is recommended that the blood test should be done after the surgery is confirmed in the Union Hospital, of course, if the local test is already qualified, you can also (Of course, if the local examination is already qualified, you can also bring the results of the local blood test to Beijing). 2. Book the crystal and make an appointment for surgery. Non-astigmatic crystals can arrive in 2-7 days at the earliest, and after approval by the hospital department, we will arrange the surgery as soon as possible, usually within a week or so. However, there are too many patients during the peak surgery period in winter and summer, so priority is given to patients with online reservations and astigmatism crystals (astigmatism crystals need to be ordered, so astigmatism crystals patients are booked well in advance for the date). Astigmatism crystals need to be ordered abroad and take 1-3 months to be delivered to China, so patients who order astigmatism crystals need to come to Beijing for the first time for 2-3 days to check and order the crystals, pay the deposit and then go home first to wait, during which time they can work and wear contact lenses normally. After the deposit is paid, you can go home and wait for the first time. Step 3: Intraocular refractive lens implantation surgery. You should start ordering antibiotic eye drops (such as levofloxacin, tobramycin, etc.) in both eyes 1-3 days before the surgery to prevent infection. You can buy eye medications at home in advance and start using them before coming to Beijing. The surgery is done in an outpatient operating room and does not require hospitalization. Depending on the circumstances, both eyes can be operated on in separate days or in one day, and some people require more than one week between surgeries for the second eye. The details are determined by the surgeon. After surgery, you will be observed in the hospital for 1-3 hours. For out-of-town patients, our hospital can basically arrange the first eye surgery in about 1 week and observe about 2-5 days after surgery according to the recovery situation. Step 4: Regular post-operative checkups: The first day of post-operative outpatient checkups, followed by regular re-checkups according to specific conditions, usually 1 week after surgery, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months after surgery, and every 6 months afterwards, etc. For patients in remote areas outside the country, if local medical conditions are limited, it is recommended to stay in Beijing for 3-4 days before returning, so that the surgeon can have sufficient time to observe the post-operative situation after surgery, and it is safer to leave Beijing after determining that the situation is secure. There is a gradual recovery process after surgery. If the doctor judges that the current situation is stable, you can go home for observation first, and generally the eyesight is basically stable for 3-6 months after surgery. It is best to come back to our hospital for a follow-up examination about 6 months after surgery, or at least to check at the local hospital, especially to check the “anterior segment OCT” to determine the location of ICL, and to tell us the results through the internet.
