Ephedra soup method for chronic rhinitis

Chronic rhinitis is a chronic inflammation of the nasal mucosa and submucosa. The main feature is that the inflammation lasts for more than three months or recurring episodes, does not heal, and does not return to normal during intervals, and there is no clear pathogenic microorganism, accompanied by varying degrees of nasal congestion, increased secretions, swelling or thickening of the nasal mucosa and other disorders. This disease belongs to the category of congested nose, congested nose or nasal suffocation in Chinese medicine. The relationship between the lungs and the nose from a physiological and pathological point of view: 1. The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine: “The lungs are open to the nose”, meaning that the nose is the door to the inhalation system. The Ling Shu – pulse degree chapter, “the lungs pass through the nose, the lungs and the nose can know the aroma and smell carry on.” The lungs are the main body of Qi, in charge of the whistle. The nose as the gas in and out of the channel, and the lungs directly connected. Therefore, the ventilation and smell of the nose must depend on the lung qi. If the lung qi is harmonized, the nasal orifices will be open and the sense of smell will be sensitive. If the lung is attacked by wind and cold, the nose will be stuffy and runny, affecting the sense of smell; if the lung is dry and hot, the nostrils will be dry; if the lung is congested with evil heat, there is often asthma and flapping of the nose. 2. Suwen-Jin Kui Zhen Shu: “The nostrils are open to the nose, and the essence is hidden in the lungs”. The nose is the orifice of the lung and is the pathway for external evil to invade the lung. If the external evil enters through the nose and mouth, it is common to see symptoms such as nasal congestion and runny nose and loss of sense of smell due to the failure to promote lung qi. If the lung is congested with heat, shortness of breath and nasal fluttering are common. It can be seen that the lung and the nasal orifice are closely related, and lung diseases can be reflected from the nose, and the treatment of nasal pathologies often starts from the lung. 3, “Medical heart language – the first volume” pointed out: “The nose is green, abdominal pain. If it is slightly black, there is phlegm. If it is yellow, it is damp heat. The white one is Qi deficiency. If it is red, it is lung heat. The bright one is also free of disease.” Therefore, when the lung qi is deficient, the nose is white, this is the Wei qi can not be pronounced on the surface of the muscle, the coup is not solid, the cold evil cohesion nasal orifice, fluid stagnation, the mucous membrane swelling color light, paroxysmal sneezing, clear and thin snot, etc., this is the lung qi deficiency cold also. In everyday patients with allergic rhinitis, the symptoms include itchy nasal orifices, sneezing, followed by a large amount of clear nasal discharge, nasal congestion, reduced sense of smell, aversion to wind and fear of cold, easy to catch a cold, shortness of breath, white face, easy to attack whenever the wind is cold, repeatedly does not heal, this also belongs to the deficiency of cold lung qi. All of the above shows that the nose and lung in the physiological and pathological closely related. Chronic rhinitis is formed by the pathogenesis: external evil guest lung, because of the lack of lung gas, the inability to dispel evil, lung loss of publicity, nasal congestion, adverse inhalation, and poor sense of smell. Chronic rhinitis treatment: promote the lung qi, dispel external evil, and supplement the lung qi and kidney qi. Medical case: patient male, 56 years old, chronic rhinitis for more than 10 years, repeatedly not healed by Chinese and Western medical treatment. The patient’s symptoms include itchy nasal orifices, sneezing, followed by a large amount of clear nasal discharge, nasal congestion and reduced sense of smell. He is usually afraid of wind and cold, easily catching cold, short of breath, white face, and prone to attack whenever he encounters wind and cold. Checking the tongue diagnosis: light tongue with thin white fur, checking the pulse diagnosis: thin pulse. The formula used: Ephedra Tang with addition and subtraction, 15g Ephedra, 10g Gui Zhi, 30g Almond, 10g Roasted Licorice, 10g Su Ye, 10g Angelica dahurica, 10g Silkworm, 10g Radix Astragali, 30g Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, 30g Fen Feng, 10g Radix Sinensis, 15g 7 doses, decoction.
