How can I take care of myself if I have TMJ disease?

  Observe and correct the poor jaw position: 1. Keep the upper and lower jaw teeth separated (except when eating and swallowing) and the jaw muscles relaxed; 2. Place your hands lightly on both sides of the face to relax the face and jaw muscles as well as the frontal and periocular muscles; 3. more relaxed.  Observe and correct harmful postures and oral habits: 1. Avoid excessive wide mouth opening and side to side movements, do not keep the jaw in the forward or backward position, or in the eccentric position; 2. Do not consciously try to repeatedly pop and pull the jaw or make difficult movements of the jaw from one side to the other by rapidly opening the mouth wide; 3. Avoid prolonged reliance of the chin or face on one or both hands, often while watching TV or reading; 6. Keep the shoulders down and relaxed, and avoid unnatural movements such as holding the phone between the shoulder and ear.  Diet Precautions 1. It is recommended to eat soft food and cut food into small pieces so that you can chew comfortably.  2. Do not eat or minimize hard and crunchy foods like apples, raw vegetables, nuts, etc.; do not eat or minimize foods that are not easily chewed like steak, beef jerky, gum, chewing gum, etc.  3.Avoid unilateral chewing.
