Can you have children with cirrhosis?

Patients with cirrhosis can have children, but it depends on the severity of the cirrhotic lesions. Generally, patients with early stage cirrhosis can have children with a higher degree of safety. Patients with advanced cirrhosis often cannot have children because their immunity is extremely low and complications related to cirrhosis may occur during pregnancy and childbirth, and they may easily die of liver failure once they give birth, so the pros and cons should be weighed and determined according to the severity of the disease. Cirrhosis is mainly caused by various viral hepatitis, and the disease is relatively well treated in the early stages, but once it progresses to cirrhosis most patients are irreversible and require long-term treatment with antiviral and liver-protective medications. Liver function, alpha-fetoprotein and liver imaging should also be monitored.
